Swilcan Forensics is available to prosecutors and defense attorneys for initial case consultation, medical record review, written expert opinions, deposition, and trial testimony. Ohio-based and available to travel.
Opinions are based on the available medical records, relevant science, and applicable standards of care. They do not change based on which party retains Swilcan Forensics.
Consultation with retaining counsel regarding forensic nursing matters and clear, well-prepared testimony at deposition, hearing, or trial. Complex medical evidence and forensic nursing practice are explained in accessible language and supported by the available record and relevant science. Travel is available as needed.
Review and analysis of medical records, forensic examination documentation, clinical findings, and related case materials. The purpose is to identify what the evidence does and does not support and help counsel understand the clinical issues relevant to the case.
Clear, well-supported reports that identify the materials reviewed, explain the relevant medical and forensic nursing concepts, cite supporting literature when appropriate, and state the resulting opinions and their basis.

Advanced education in the medical forensic assessment of non-fatal strangulation, including clinical presentation, symptom and injury documentation, and the significance and limitations of both positive and absent findings.
Translation of medical terminology, examination findings, and clinical documentation into clear explanations for counsel, judges, and juries, including what the record can and cannot establish.
Consultation and education concerning forensic nursing practice, documentation, evidence collection, program development, curriculum design, and evidence-based professional standards.
Selena McCormick, MSN, RN, CPN, SANE-P, SANE-A is the founder and principal of Swilcan Forensics. She is a master's-prepared registered nurse and holds national board certifications as a Certified Pediatric Nurse, Pediatric/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, and Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Saint Louis University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from New York University, and a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Nursing Executive Leadership from Northern Kentucky University. She is bilingual in English and Spanish and fluent in French.
Her clinical and educational background includes the medical forensic care of patients who have experienced sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, child maltreatment, and non-fatal strangulation. Her work encompasses medical forensic examinations, evidence collection and documentation, multidisciplinary collaboration, professional education, and the interpretation of complex medical records.
Selena's role as an expert is deliberately focused and objective: to explain the medical evidence, the relevant science, and the limits of the record. She does not determine whether an event occurred, and her opinions do not depend on which party retained her.
She has presented research and lectured nationally and has authored professional publications addressing forensic nursing and the medical response to violence.
